Hope you guys don’t mind, but I have to split this chapter in half. Busy day today.

Anyway, on today’s part Wanderer visits her comforter to erase Melanie from exixtance. Comforter Kathy gives her some advice on how to deal with her.

We start with Kathy’s tips on how to subdue a rebellious host:

1) Give class. Apparently our knowledge on how to give hugs more efficiently dozes this humans off.

2) Have a life. There’s nothing more boring to a human than a soul. There’s something about our kind, wonderful, sweet selves that put human to sleep. The more of us there are the more bored they grow. This works best when talking to Comforters and Healers.

3) Have sex. Your host will be so disgusted that it will hide forever and you will exert your control over the barbaric human. If you are also disgusted by the idea, just capture the host’s original lover and keep him as your own. Then we implant one of our own who you have never talked to before and you will have the perfect relationship.

Wanderer’s reaction to that last one? Scream like a lunatic and has a meltdown followed by:

But I turned and ran for the door, fighting the words that could not come out of my mouth. Words that could not be my words. Words that made no sense unless they were hers, but they felt like mine. They couldn’t be mine. They couldn’t be spoken.

That’s killing him! That’s making him cease to be! I don’t want someone else. I want Jared, not a stranger in his body! The body means nothing without him.

And the Comforter does nothing about it. If this isn’t addressed later on I will call this the most useless race of aliens ever. Seriously, the key to the last human resistance lies on the mental state of this alien and she just went batshit crazy.

Also, you know, so far Wanderer hasn’t tried to consider humankind as a whole or really talked to Melanie, yet this is her reaction? And it is hers, she has been pinning over this guy from even before she and her host were one, as much as Melanie tries to keep him and her feelings from Wanderer. She, who didn’t even know the standards of beauty, deemed him the most beautiful man ever and just fell at first sight. She admits grieving for him and swoons when he‘s mentioned.

That said, I don’t get this bug. I would have preferred for this to happen once Wanderer starts acknowledging Melanie as somebody and not just something. It just bugs me that she’s “in love” with this man when she hasn’t considered the values of humanity.

Heck, if you asked me this would have been cooler if instead Wandarer fell for Melanie. Just saying. (And no, I don’t go around making everyone gay. XD I‘m just a bit annoyed at the Jared/Wanderer )
