The host, chapter 10 (part 1)
Jul. 27th, 2010 11:52 pmSorry guys, but I'm super busy again. I couldn't do the whole thing in one sitting. But hey, something is something.
In this chapter Wanderer and Melanie go shopping and head out to the desert. Yeah, that's pretty much it.
Hello everyone and welcome to 5 facts you didn't know about aliens. In today's episode we evaluate the parasite aliens from the host as they shop around for supplies. Here's what we have learned so far:
5) They like to pick hosts as stupid as they are. This lets them cope better with their new host. That's the only explanation as to why Wanda, who is stupid, picked Melanie.
I took a deep breath, trying to tell myself that I wasn’t going along with this. I was simply trying to get more coordinates from her, that was all. When I had the whole story, I would find someone—a different Seeker, maybe, one less repulsive than the one assigned to me—and pass the information along. I was just being thorough, I promised myself.
(Why are you going along with this?! It's not like you have made friends with her! I have yet to see a pocahontas like moment where you two make friends and realize what you have been doing is wrong, You are just doing this because Jared wet your panties and that's not a good reason to go along with this!)
My awkward attempt to lie to myself was so pathetic that Melanie didn’t pay any attention to it, felt no worry at all. It must be too late for me, as the Seeker had warned. Maybe I should have taken the shuttle.
Too late? I wish!Melanie grumbled.I can’t make you do anything you don’t want to do. I can’t even raise my hand! Her thought was a moan of frustration.
(The why did you tell her all about where the last humans were! Spineless people can indeed sell you out, even more so when they have no attachment to you! What makes you think she won't talk when questioned? She looks like a squealer to me and this trip was originally to kill you, you dumb broad! I can't believe this is the same Melanie that committed suicide and protected her secrets so well.)
4) Aliens lead boring lives and such rely on strangers to entertain them. This leads to them being overly friendly and nosy.
(One extremely nosy talk later)
Melanie was thinking sulfurous thoughts about the kind old man.
He was being nice. He’s sincerely concerned about my welfare, I reminded her.
You’re all very creepy, she told me acidly. Didn’t anyone ever tell you not to talk to strangers?
3) They live like the smurfs (aka, they’re communists)
I can’t get used to not paying for things, she said, changing the subject. What’s the point of scanning them?
Inventory, of course. Is he supposed to remember everything we took when he needs to order more?
(No opinion on that. Just putting it out there)
2) And why can they be communists? Because they’re perfect.
Besides, what’s the point of money when everyone is perfectly honest? I paused, feeling the guilt again so strongly that it was an actual pain. Everyone but me, of course.
(Yeah! It’s not like they do horrible things like stealing bodies, tricking victims and committing mass genocide to satisfy their needs. Our kind, wonderful and honest heroes would never do such a horrible thing)
1) Aliens don’t know that water is more important than food at the desert.
This actually makes me question, how do aliens plan invasions? This is one of the most elemental facts about living on earth and about human endurance, unlike how to survive in a jungle for 10 days. Shouldn’t her research show about this and other facts like this? She was a professor even! How does Wanderer not know this?

on 2010-07-28 10:54 pm (UTC)I actually just hit 40,000 words. I'm no where done, but I'm pretty happy I hit that point (and I went over 100 pages at the same time :D). Since, I don't think I ever hit that point before, but I can't be sure since I never checked. It's slow work though, unlike Meyer, I didn't start and finish in 3 months or whatever it was. I've been working on mine for over a year (a year and a half come October).
