Another fic

Since Meyer doesn't tell us about it, I decided to do a tiny fic about what the Diego/Riley confrontation looked like.
Diego stopped in front of the house, eyes fixated on the door. His hand opened and closed with each question and possibility his mind gave him. Her was gone and Bree was on her way home, of that he was sure. Riley was still inside the cabin, most likely thinking about what to say before getting to their underground have. Yet he wasn’t sure of what to do about anything anymore.
All this new information was troubling, more than Bree could suspect. The sparkling was just the beginning of a rope of lies going around Riley’s neck. He was bound to hang for it, would he let such a thing happen?
Eventually his fists remained closed and he knocked on the door.
Riley opened the door looking displeased before it turned to worry. “Diego. What are you doing here stranger?”
Diego came in into the love shack without greeting him. The whole place was repulsive. It wasn’t a mess, nor specially filthy, but each corner was full of that woman’s stench. It over drove his heightened senses, gave him more information than he needed to ever know.
“What, something drinking at you?” continued Riley, showing a very dazzling smile.
“I’m just here looking out for you, like I always do.”
“What happened?”
Diego grabbed a piece of cloth from the table. It had been been a napkin one, now it was a reminder of what Riley had been doing behind his back. What their meetings actually were. “Do you trust me?”
“What?”
“I said,” Diego said enunciating each word more carefully, “do you trust me?””
Riley walked over to him and cupped his face. “Of course I do.” He chuckled. “You know I do. Any other day that laugh would have sent tingles all over Diego.
“You trust me you say.” Diego withdrew from Riley. “Who were those dark cloaks?”
“Diego...”
“What is this about a war? What have you been doing with her?”
Riley couldn’t raise his face.
“What? No more jokes? Is the floor suddenly that much more interesting?”
Riley shook his regaining his focus. “There’s this coven... disgusting yellow eyes. They are out to attack our creator. We were created to protect her.“
Diego clenched his teeth.
“I do love you Diego, but I... owe her.”
“And are you sure for what you throw your life away-- all of our lives?!” Diego face twisted with pain. “I’ve been such a fool. All this time I thought you cared about me the same way I cared about you, been honest the same way I was with you, trusted me the way I trusted you--”
“Well, well, what do we have here?” Victoria’s voice resounded in the shack. It was like claws on metal-- sharp and painful all the way down your spine, just like the day he was reborn. Any other day Diego would have ran away as far as as he could to get away from that feeling.
Victoria walked between them, keeping her eyes on Riley. The once proud vampire shrank in her view. “I was on my way out when I found a trail back here by this vampire” She turned dramatically to face Diego, her wild hair bouncing all over the place. “Tell me Riley, is this the little one you were talking about?”
Diego looked past Victoria waiting for the Riley to take a side. Riley bit his lip.
“I’m waiting Riley.”
Riley sighed and said, “Yes.”
Her little smile grew at his answer. “Good. That will make for a nice clean up.”
“That would leave us with only with 21 vampires.”
She tapped her bottom lip with her finger. “Yes, it certainly isn’t as good as 22, but it would have to do. He already knows too much and we can’t have him blabbing to the other newborns.” She giggled finding the whole situation delicious. “Not to worry, 3:1 ration is not that bad anyway.”
Riley walked forward towards Diego, standing between the two vampires.
“So is this how it’s going to end Riley?” said Diego with eyes burning with anger. “How it’s always been?”
“Manage him for me, Riley.”
“Go ahead. Do it,” said Diego bitterly. “Then you’ll be alone and see then if she cares about you at all. She already has plans and they don’t include you.”
“Enough! Just kill him already!”
Riley closed his eyes trying to think of a solution. Each voice tugged at his heartstrings binding him in place. Eventually he came to a choice and knew in which side he belonged.
