For anybody who cares, I have two books in my hands (so to speak) to start sporking. Neither I have read before and I just know the basics. Also neither give me much confidence; I can't shake the feeling they'll both piss me off. One is "The Rules" and it's a book about how to get men while the other is "The Host" by Meyer. I think I'll read the first chapter of each on the weekend and let that guide me.

I've yet to read The Host as well. I've heard that it lives up to the Meyer tradition of abusive relationships, although it does seem at least to ditch the "humans suck" thing.

Incidentally, the Nostalgia Chick did a red-penning of the first part of The Host, which is glorious (http://wegotclass.wordpress.com/2009/04/16/people-read/). In her words, "Meyer has all of the amateurish mistakes of a middling fanfiction writer" XD

I will read it after doing the first chapter (if I go that route). I'm just a positive person and I want to go in with a positive outlook (even though I hate Twilight). XD Maybe there will be one or two things that I'll like, as is the case with Bree Tanner. I hated Bree, but the gay subtext and Fred made it funny to read. I wouldn't buy it, but I don't want to set it on fire either.

Well, I hope you find some redeeming things. XD It's rare, but the little good things in Meyer's works are fantastic.
